In this episode, Jeanette Lynton talks to us about going beyond borders for dramatic looks in our artwork. We used non-border stamp images and everyday techniques to make truly unique borders. We also learn about the new Grace packet, how to use the Soft Set eyelet tool, and ideas for using the Across the Board Rub-Ons in non-traditional ways.

To create the project shown here, follow the helpful hints and the Imagine: Monologue™ pattern as outlined in our how-to book Imagine™. • Trim papers according to cutting diagrams on page 52 of Imagine. Cut one 1 1/2” x 12” strip of Colonial White cardstock for the stamped accent piece. Cut the following masks from scrap paper: one 1” x 12” and two 1/4” x 12” pieces.
  • Place  the 1” x 12” mask in center of 1 1/2 “ x 12” strip of Colonial White cardstock. Using Cocoa ink, stamp border on Colonial White strip. When stamping is complete, remove mask.
  • Place the two 1/4" x 12” masks along the edges of the Colonial White strip, covering stamped borders. Using a variety of inks, stamp several flowers in the center of the 1 1/2” x 12” Colonial White strip. When stamping is complete, remove mask.
  • Using the sponging technique, apply Cocoa ink to the center of the 1 1/2” x 12” Colonial White cardstock and edges of all other papers and photo, as desired.
  • Using a Sponge Dauber, apply Barn Red ink to the appropriate Color-Ready Alphabet letters, creating a title. Attach each letter to the journal piece.
  • Assemble the page according to the instructions on page 53. When attaching piece C, turn the page so bottom of the page is closest to you. This will give you more leverage when attaching the ribbon.
  • Using the piercing tool, create five evenly spaced holes along top of the journal piece. Attach with brads.
  • Using second generation stamping and Honey ink, stamp three large flowers under the journal piece. Using Twilight ink, stamp the small flower in the center of the three Honey flowers.
  • Attach the ends of three 1 1/2” ribbon pieces to the right side of piece C. (Note: When the page is turned right side up, the ribbon will be on the left side of piece C. However, when the page is turned so bottom edge is closest to you, the ribbon is on the right side.)
  • Tie a 3” piece of ribbon around each attached ribbon piece. Secure with a knot. Trim ends.
